Functional Health for Active Individuals

What is Structural Health?

Biomechanical examination and treatment of the neuromusculoskeletal system using hands on diagnostics & manual (&/or mechanical) adjustments of the spinal vertebrae (neck & lower back) & joints of the extremities (shoulder, knee, foot) to correct nervous system dysfunction. Dr. DeWalch also employs extensive tissue work (Stretch & Myofascial) in order to balance the biomechanics of the body.

What is Functional Health?

A laboratory-based approach that focuses on optimizing the functioning of the body and its organs, glands, and nutrients, by identifying and addressing the root cause or causes of the condition.

Who is a “Sick Athlete”?

Dr. DeWalch considers himself an athlete. He cares about our athletic community and he believes that food literally makes the athlete. Dr. DeWalch believes that athletes should fuel with real God-given food. Dr. DeWalch wants to educate the athletic community about what is really going on inside their bodies, with their hormones, organs, muscles, and nutrients. Dr. DeWalch does not want athletes that look “fit” on the outside but are really “sick athletes” on the inside. Health inside and out is Dr. DeWalch’s mission.

FAQ

Are you a Medical Doctor?

No. I am trained as a Doctor of Chiropractic with specialized postgraduate education from Functional Medicine University. I am a Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner and I have a certification as a Fellow of the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture. I do not practice medicine, philosophically or clinically. Therefore, I do not treat, cure or diagnosis any medical condition. The model of care that I recommend to patients is one of health and wellness. It emphasizes removing obstacles to improving your health and replacing what your body needs. This model of care is not meant to be a replacement or substitute for conventional medical care. In fact, many patients find it a useful adjunct to the care that they are already receiving from their medical doctor.

Dr. DeWalch prefers Functional Health vs Functional Medicine. The term “Health” embodies all that Dr. DeWalch has lived and learned since starting as a Functional Health patient at the age of 5. There is a different there is a different education and philosophy to those who practice Functional Medicine(capital “M”). It is not drastically different from western allopathic medicine in Dr. DeWalch’s opinion. Dr. DeWalch knows and absolutely loves, values, and respects those individuals and thanks God for them and their skills every day. Dr. DeWalch practices Functional Health to complement your care, improve you Health (capital “H”), and help you achieve the health God intended.

Do you accept insurance?

Due to the health insurance model, we are unable to accept health insurance. We are extremely mindful of cost and should you have any questions pertaining to the cost of your care we are open and available for discussion.

Why Structure & Function?

As Athletes, we place a significant demand on our muscles, nerves, bones and joints but we also place an unseen demand on the internal mechanisms of our bodies such as our hormones, GI system, amino acids, vitamins, nutrients and cells. These internal mechanisms are “the engine inside the Athlete.”
Athletes need both Structural and Functional care, Dr. DeWalch can help you understand and navigate your health to achieve your goals.

There is no specific dress requirement. Most patients come dressed in comfortable athletic clothing since Structural Health appointments usually include stretching. We do have t-shirts and shorts here in the office if they are ever required (example Dr. DeWalch needs to examine the knee before doing Acupuncture but you are wearing pants that can’t roll up).

Testimonials

“I saw Dr. DeWalch for a persistent running injury that I had for months and neglected to properly treat. He was very thorough and professional, patient, asked questions, listened, and fixed me! I cannot say how LONG I had been plagued with this issue and after some stretches, adjustments, acupuncture with electrodes, and some other weird machine (all in first visit) I was healed! No more swollen elephant foot and I run 4-5 times a week now without issues. The staff here are super professional, courteous, non snooty, and accommodating. Yes my first appointment was expensive but so worth it and its been over 3 weeks and I have not had to go back. I am recommending him to other runner friends of mine with issues.”

Christine P.

“I honestly cant say enough good things about Dr. Dewalch and their staff. The knowledge base that Dr. D has is unparalleled as he can help you work through a problem from its root cause to the ongoing treatment to keep it from happening again. I originally went here for another opinion after 2 separate doctors wanted me to have surgery for a disc issue. I was 31 years old and didn’t want to have back surgery unless it was the only option. Dr. D took on my case and we worked together on a plan to repair the disc. Since then he has helped me learn how to treat issues when they pop up and he kept me out of surgery. Besides all the great things about the practice the people there are some of the nicest you will ever meet!”

David D.

“Excellent experience with Dr DeWalch! Extremely professional and very personable at the same time which is hard to come by. His attention to care for his patients is top notch. Feeling better and better due to his treatment and care.”

Anne L.

“Tremendous attention to detail. Was immediately able to hone in on my problems and provide improvement in both mobility and discomfort. Excellent bedside manner as well.”

Aaron S.

“Caring expert care! I have found relief from chronic pain and expert advice. Very friendly staff. Dr. Dewalch is a great diagnostic resource.”

Gay E.

“Dr. DeWalch helped me tremendously (and so efficiently) with my neck and back issues. He was welcoming, listened empathetically and addressed my issues directly. He is clearly very passionate about his work and is very knowledge about regarding the science and physiology behind his assessment and treatment protocols. I felt comfortable and left understanding my issues and how to integrate stretching and posture changes that have addressed my issue. I am so grateful I didn’t wait any longer to seek treatment. His holistic approach really has reduced my pain and he taught me how to manage the issue to minimize repeated visits. I also liked how he gave me options during our office visits regarding the various approaches he could take in treating my pain issues. If you’re looking for someone who can work with you to address any issues you may be having by first, showing genuine concern, second listening (without rushing you) to your problem and history, and third treat you in a time-efficient, informative way, Dr. DeWalch is the ideal practitioner.”

Claire W.

“These folks know what they’re doing and they do it extremely well. Attention to detail would be a gross understatement in describing the care they give.”
